Fat has almost twice the calories of carbohydrates and proteins. The calories from fat is more easily converted into fat than carbohydrates and proteins. The fat in your diet may confuse your appetite so that you may not realize you are full.

Can I trust nutrition information I get from newspapers and magazines?

Nutrition tips from different sources sometimes contradict each other. You should always check with your doctor first. Also, keep in mind the following advice:

* Comes to nutrition there is no “magic wand”. There is no single diet that works for everyone. You need to find a meal plan that works for you.

* Good nutrition does not come in a vitamin pill. You can take a vitamin pill to make sure you are getting enough vitamins and minerals, but your body benefits the most when you eat healthy foods.

* Eating all kinds of foods is best for your body. Learn to try new foods.

* Fad diets offer short-term changes, but good health is the result of an effort and long-term commitment.

* The stories that people have used a diet program or product, especially in television commercials and news programs are simply a way to sell more product. Remember that weight gain and other problems that come up after a diet program is something he never talked about in those ads.

What about diet drugs help?

Although diet drugs may help you lose weight at the start, they usually do not help you maintain your new weight. Taking medication does not help you learn to change their habits regarding food and exercise. Making lasting changes in these habits is the way to lose weight and maintain your new weight.

What does it take to lose weight?

To lose weight, you have to reduce the number of calories you consume and start burning more calories each day. Calories are the amount of energy in the food you eat. Some foods have more calories than others.

For example, foods high in fat and sugar are also high in calories. Your body uses calories for energy. If you eat more calories than you use, the extra calories are stored as fat in your body.

One pound (0.373 kg) of fat is roughly 3,500 calories. To lose one pound of fat in a week you have to eat 3,500 calories less, this equates to 500 fewer calories each day, or have to “burn 3,500 calories.

You can burn calories by exercising or just being more active. Talk to your family doctor before beginning any exercise program. Your doctor may tell you what kind of exercise program is right for you.

You can lose weight by eating fewer calories. But to lose weight and maintain weight loss, you need to eat fewer calories and burn calories.

If you cut 250 calories from your diet each day and exercise enough to burn 250 calories, that adds up to 500 calories less a day. If you do this for seven days, you can lose a pound of fat in a week.

Many experts believe you should not try to lose more than two pounds (0.75 kg) per week. Losing more than two pounds in a week usually means you are losing water and lean muscle mass instead of losing fat. If you would have less power and probably will gain weight.

How often should I eat?

Most people can eat three meals a day and snack every day. The three meals should be about the same size and should be low in fat. It’s good to try to eat two to three servings of fruits and vegetables, one serving of grain and a piece of meat or a meat alternative in most meals.

Some people benefit more if they eat five to six meals small during the day, allowing two to three hours between meals. For example, their first meal of the day can be a cup of yogurt and a banana. Three hours later they might eat a simple deli sandwich.

Do not skip meals. Although this may help you lose weight for some time, long term, this fails. You will feel too hungry and then eat too much at once. You can get so used to skipping meals that you may not feel hungry at normal mealtimes. But after a month of eating a normal breakfast and lunch, and a light meal, your body will adjust.

According to the World Health Organization, the health concept is defined as “being right, correct balance between the physical, mental, social and individual, and not merely the absence of disease.”

Thus, the choices you make about the way you want to live are important to your health. Here we give some basic information that can help you stay healthy:

• Do not use snuff in any form.
· Eat a healthy diet.
· Make regular exercise

Try to entertain yourself with something else when you want to smoke. Talk to someone, take a walk or get busy with a task.

At first when I quit, change your routine. Use a different route to work. Drink tea instead of coffee. Breakfast in a different place.

Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot bath, exercise or read a book. Plan to do something you enjoy every day.

Drink plenty of water and other liquids.

4. Be prepared for relapse or difficult situations

Most relapses occur within the first three months after quitting. Do not be discouraged if you start smoking again. Remember, most people try several times to quit before succeeding.

Immediate benefits

After 20 minutes: Blood pressure drops to normal. The heart rate drops to normal figure. The temperature of the feet and hands increases to its normal point.

After 8 hours: The carbon monoxide concentration in the blood drops to normal. The concentration of oxygen in the blood rises to normal.

At 24 hours: It reduces the risk of suffering a heart attack.

After completion of the first 48 hours: Nerve endings begin to regenerate. It increases the sharpness of smell and taste. Walking becomes easier.

In 2-3 weeks: Circulation improves. Lung function increases up to 30%.

From 1-9 months: Decrease cough, nasal congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath. Cilia regrow in lungs, increasing ability to shed mucus and resistance to infection.

One year later: The risk of coronary heart disease is 50% lower than that of a smoker.

“Skeleton”

The skeleton has a role in regulating blood glucose and may be the underlying cause of diabetes, show two studies conducted in the United States.

Both studies discovered the role of a hormone derived from the bones called osteocalcin, and its link with insulin.

One study, conducted in mice, found that the breakdown of old bone, which occurs to allow new bone growth also helps maintain a healthy level of blood glucose.

And the link, say scientists at the Medical Center of Columbia University, is osteocalcin.

The researchers, who published the study in the journal Cell, believe the finding could lead to better treatments to control the global epidemic of type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Gerard Karsenty and his team had already shown in previous studies that osteocalcin may regulate glucose levels.

This hormone can “turn” the production of insulin in the pancreas, which in turn improves the ability of other cells to absorb glucose from the blood.

But the new research, we found that the osteocalcin only works when the bone is decomposed during the process of natural formation.

In tests conducted to measure levels of osteocalcin and glucose in a small group of patients who had a genetic bone defect, confirmed the results found in mice.

Important implications

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the disease and is caused when the body can not produce insulin or respond appropriately and can not regulate the levels of glucose in the blood.

“Injection of Insulin”

The study suggests that in some patients diabetes may be caused by changes in the skeleton.

And this information could lead to development of drugs that stimulate the link between osteocalcin and insulin.

Also, the researchers say the finding could also mean that the drugs used to strengthen bone in the treatment of disorders such as osteoporosis may interfere with this process and cause problems with blood sugar.

“This research has important implications for patients with osteoporosis and diabetes,” said Dr. Karsenty.

“First, this study shows that osteocalcin is involved in the onset of diabetes. And second, the bone could be a new target in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, since it seems to contribute to glucose intolerance.”

“And finally, osteocalcin could become a treatment for type 2 diabetes,” says the scientist.

In the second study, also published in Cell, researchers from Johns Hopkins Medical Institute discovered that insulin is necessary for normal bone development and this hormone, they say, may be the link between bone health and metabolic diseases and the diabetes.

In the mouse study, the animals whose bones could not respond to insulin resistance developed hormone and high levels of sugar, both symptoms of diabetes.

Scientists now hope to confirm these findings in larger studies with humans.

Incorporate the rice and other grains to the diet is a good idea because these foods appear to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, new research found.

The study by Qi Sun, School of Public Health, Harvard (USA) found that replacing the rice for white rice, if only a bit per week down the chances of this metabolic disease. The findings were published in Archives of Internal Medicine.

BAD WITH SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES

Type 2 diabetes represents, according to World Health Organization, 90% of diagnosed diabetes worldwide. Its incidence increased much in recent decades and is considered an epidemic. This pathology is strongly associated with sedentary lifestyles and obesity, and is often triggered in adulthood. However, today has begun to be detected in young children.

This condition occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the body decreases the sensitivity to this hormone. As a result, blood sugar level increases and, over time, this situation raises the risk of multiple problems such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, nervous system problems, eye disease and kidney failure.

BROWN RICE FOR HEALTH

Sun worked with information from 157 463 39 765 women and men. Every four years, volunteers completed a comprehensive questionnaire about their health and lifestyle. In total, the investigation lasted 22 years.

In analyzing the data the researchers found that eating white rice five or more times per week appears to be associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. By contrast, people who ate two or more servings of rice per week had lower chances of contracting the disease.

Also, replace 50 grams of white rice (uncooked) for rice was associated with a 16% lower risk of suffering from diabetes. The authors found the same positive relationship for the rest of the grains.

“We have to replace the white rice and other grains for refined grains, including brown rice, appears to decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes,” concluded Sun.

Papaya tea contains properties that fight with great power the tumors in several types of cancer and leaves no sequelae of any toxicity as with other therapies, according to research from the University of Florida (UF) released Tuesday.

Dang Nam researcher at UF and a group of Japanese scientists documented the powerful anti-cancer effects of papaya on cancer of the uterus, breast, liver, lung and pancreas, with laboratory tests on a wide range of tumors.

The researchers used an extract of dried papaya and anticancer effects were stronger when the cells received higher doses of tea, said the UF.

For the first time the study found that the papaya leaf extract promotes the production of essential molecules of Th1 type cytokines.

This regulation of the immune system, along with the tumor in direct combat various cancers, suggesting possible therapeutic strategies employed by the immune system to fight cancer, said the university.

Besides papaya extract has no toxic effect on normal cells, preventing a devastating consequence of many anti-cancer therapies, he said.

Scientists took ten different types of cancer cells and exposed them to four degrees of concentration of papaya extract for 24 hours after which measured their effects.

Papaya reduced tumor growth in all crops, it was found. The research was published in the February issue of the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, said the UF.

“Nuts”

The consumption of nuts may help reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, scientists say.

Research at the University of Loma Linda, California, United States, reviewed 25 studies involving about 600 people in seven countries.

The scientists found that those who ate a small bag of nuts a day reduced by 7.4% their cholesterol levels.

So believe that nuts help prevent the absorption of cholesterol, so these foods should be part of a healthy diet.

The lipoprotein-cholesterol or a substance produced by the liver from fatty foods we eat.

Although it is very important for the normal functioning of the organism, the excessively high levels of this element in the blood can have serious effects on health.

Heart risk

Scientific evidence shows that high levels of cholesterol can cause narrowing of the arteries and increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Has also been demonstrated in the past that regular consumption of nuts or dried fruits have health benefits because these products are rich in protein, unsaturated fatty acids, fiber, minerals, vitamins and other compounds as antioxidants and phytosterols.

But new research published in Archives of Internal Medicine (Archives of Internal Medicine) – tried to establish what their precise impact on cardiovascular fitness.

The people involved in the study consumed an average of 67 grams of nuts a day for a period of between three and eight weeks.

In addition to improving cholesterol levels, nuts reduced the amount of triglycerides, another type of blood fat that has also been linked to heart disease.

However, scientists say, the impact was less pronounced among overweight participants.

Sterols

Scientists do not know why the nuts have this effect, but believe it could be because they contain phytosterols, compounds that are thought to block the absorption of cholesterol in the intestine.

“Nuts”

As stated by Professor Joan Sabaté, who led the study, “the effects of nut consumption are related to the dose ingested, and the different types of nuts have similar effects.”

But the scientist adds that these effects were “significantly modified by LDL cholesterol (the so-called” bad cholesterol “) and present, body mass index and type of diet.”

That is, “explains researcher,” the effect of nut consumption on cholesterol levels was greater among individuals with high levels of “bad” cholesterol, with a low body mass index and among those consuming Western-type diets .

“Walnuts are a whole food has been consumed by humans throughout history,” said the scientist.

“And it can be expected that the increased consumption of walnuts as part of a prudent diet favorably affects lipid levels in the blood and has the potential to reduce heart disease risk,” he adds.

Other experts caution, however, caution should be used with the consumption of nuts covered in sugar or salt.

Discover three key compounds in gluten-a protein found in some grains that cause celiac disease.

“Pan”

Scientists in Australia and the United Kingdom discovered three key compounds in gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley, which are the cause of celiac disease.

This is a digestive disorder caused by intolerance to the protein, which causes an immune reaction that damages the lining of the small intestine hindering their ability to absorb nutrients.

If the disease is not detected can lead to severe malnutrition.

There are currently no treatments for the disease and the patient should remove gluten from your diet permanently.

The new findings, say researchers from the Medical Research Institute Walter and Eliza Hall, Melbourne, could potentially lead to the development of new treatments and diagnostic methods for the millions of people worldwide who suffer from celiac disease.

New therapy

60 years ago it was discovered that gluten was the environmental causes of disease and since then many scientists around the world have tried to find the biological process that causes it.

“The Holy Grail of celiac disease research has been to identify the toxic components of gluten,” said Dr. Bob Anderson, who led the study.

“Chocolate Cake”

“And this is what we now are.”

The research, published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, started nine years ago and involved more than 200 patients with celiac disease clinics in Melbourne and Oxford.

Volunteers were asked to eat wheat bread and rye, and barley boiled.

Six days later, blood samples of patients to measure their immune response to thousands of different components, gluten-peptides.

The tests identified 90 peptides that were causing some kind of immune reaction, but found that three of these were particularly toxic.

According to Professor Anderson, “These three components are involved in most gluten immune responses observed in people with celiac disease.”

Challenge

The disorder is often an enormous challenge for patients.

Almost half of those who suffer, despite following a diet free of gluten, damage your gut five years after removal of protein food.

The new findings are already being used by a biotechnology company developing immunotherapy to desensitize allow celiac patients to the toxic effects of gluten.

It works by exposing the patient to small amounts of the three toxic peptides.

The first phase of clinical trials was completed in June and results expected in the coming months.

Sarah Sleet, chief executive of the organization Coeliac UK, said the finding could potentially lead to a vaccine against the disease.

“It’s an important piece in the puzzle, but more research is still needed, so we should not expect a solution in clinical practice in the coming years.”

Symptoms of the disease include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, recurring fatigue, headaches, weight loss and mouth sores.
