Except that it is the seat of a treadmill designed to do resistance exercises.

There is abundant evidence that aerobic activities are great for the brain of the elderly, but the benefits of lifting weights have been much less explored. We now know that older women who do this kind of training experience an improvement in cognitive functions. And this has been shown in females between 65 and 70 years who had not previously practiced. The work demonstrates just published in Archives of Internal Medicine.

The results are striking, since this is a clinical trial of 12 months duration, conducted in a controlled manner. Participants were divided into three groups. The first two made-legged endurance exercise once or twice a week. The third party executed only gym toning and balance. The researchers measured the cognitive abilities of all of them at baseline, after six months and one year.

The women who did weight training improved their mental prowess in two aspects: conflict resolution and selective attention (ability to answer the essential questions of a task or situation and ignore those that are irrelevant). On the physical level, we observed a positive effect on muscle function and speed during walking, which is closely associated with the risk of falls and disability. Moreover, studies show that being able to walk at a good rate is closely related to cognitive functions.

The charge of the work stress that no one can speak of a general improvement in mental skills, but a series of very specific advantages. In fact, tests showed no impact of strength training on memory.

Participants who performed the other training-toning and balance-not extracted any significant benefit from their efforts. “These findings have important clinical implications because cognitive impairment is a major health problem that currently lacks effective pharmacological therapy and because the performance of endurance exercise is not a widespread practice among seniors,” conclude the authors of research.

The journal Archives of Internal Medicine published in the same number multiple jobs using a common denominator: they harvest the fruits of older people who spend some time each week to ’sweat shirt. ” Here are the main results:
Cognitive impairment

A study conducted in almost 4,000 Germans aged over 55 years shows that the performance of physical activity with a moderate to high intensity reduces the incidence of cognitive decline after two years. The researchers stress that the decline of mental abilities is one factor that contributes most to the loss of independence of the elderly.
Bone mineral density

A structured exercise program improved, after 18 months, bone mineral density and risk of falls in women over 65 years. The Pope expressed a controlled clinical trial conducted with the collaboration of approximately 250 females. However, this training did not reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Exercise in the residence

A team of French researchers conducted a clinical trial to evaluate the effects of a program of activities tailored to the elderly living in nursing homes and were in very poor shape. As expected, the exercise had a positive impact on their quality of life deteriorated.

Music therapy has been applied to many of them seriously ill and people who worked like wonder. It is used extensively as a solution to cure patients suffering from various diseases.

Therapy not only helps people busted stress but also helps people suffering from chronic diseases. In this case, patients are allowed to access their favorite music for a certain period of time. It has been shown that these music therapy sessions to patients rejuvenate and bring back lost confidence in his life. Positive growth is certainly a spirit very good sign for a patient suffering from chronic diseases over a long period of time.

You can reduce stress, anxiety, pain and controlling blood pressure, respiratory rate, listen. Besides, patients suffering from post-surgical problems, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease get a positive result using music therapy.

You may have heard negative comments about music therapy. It is often observed that the excess music therapy sessions can cause harm to patients in intensive care. But music therapy is not at all responsible. An intensive care patient suffering for a long period of time often weakens the nervous system. The use of music therapy is a sudden change around a patient’s condition and may lead to worse health condition.

At a session of music therapy, compact disc players, speakers or headphones, and a wide selection of used CDs. A huge collection of glass diverse actors representing cultural and ethnic community is very effective to use for all intensive care unit patients.
