Papaya tea contains properties that fight with great power the tumors in several types of cancer and leaves no sequelae of any toxicity as with other therapies, according to research from the University of Florida (UF) released Tuesday.
Dang Nam researcher at UF and a group of Japanese scientists documented the powerful anti-cancer effects of papaya on cancer of the uterus, breast, liver, lung and pancreas, with laboratory tests on a wide range of tumors.
The researchers used an extract of dried papaya and anticancer effects were stronger when the cells received higher doses of tea, said the UF.
For the first time the study found that the papaya leaf extract promotes the production of essential molecules of Th1 type cytokines.
This regulation of the immune system, along with the tumor in direct combat various cancers, suggesting possible therapeutic strategies employed by the immune system to fight cancer, said the university.
Besides papaya extract has no toxic effect on normal cells, preventing a devastating consequence of many anti-cancer therapies, he said.
Scientists took ten different types of cancer cells and exposed them to four degrees of concentration of papaya extract for 24 hours after which measured their effects.
Papaya reduced tumor growth in all crops, it was found. The research was published in the February issue of the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, said the UF.
